Taormina (from Catania)

The small and picturesque town of Taormina is situated in a magnificent location. A terrace overlooking the Ionian Sea, on the eastern coast of Sicily. It still retains its medieval character, although it has become one of the most popular tourist enclaves in the Mediterranean.

We begin our tour on foot, to admire (visit outside) the famous Corvaja Palace (Gothic) dating from the 15^th century. The Greek Theater (entrance to pay on the spot), which surprises with its breadth, its extraordinary acoustics and its impressive location. This Roman-style theater dates from the 2^nd century BC and has a diameter of one hundred and nine meters. It is the second largest theater in Sicily after Syracuse, from the highlands there are spectacular views of the majestic Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe and still active.

We will enjoy free time to walk through the wide pedestrian zone, where we can buy local handicrafts or walk to Piazza del Duomo to discover the old Dominican Monastery, now converted into a luxury hotel. At the end of the excursion, return to the port and farewell.
