Port Overview
Located on Albania’s southern Ionian coast, the Port of Saranda serves as one of the country’s main cruise destinations, particularly popular with small and medium-sized cruise ships touring the Eastern Mediterranean. Nestled in a scenic bay directly across from the Greek island of Corfu, Saranda’s port is ideally situated within walking distance of the town center and its seafront promenade.

Cruise ships typically anchor offshore due to the port’s limited docking facilities and tender passengers ashore to the main pier. From there, visitors have immediate access to local cafés, shops, and cultural sites such as the Lekursi Castle and the Monastery of Forty Saints. The town’s pleasant coastal setting makes it easy to explore on foot, while organized shore excursions often include visits to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint, located about 20 km south of the port.

Port facilities are relatively basic but sufficient for cruise operations, including customs and security controls. Local transport services such as taxis and tour operators are readily available at the port entrance, offering connections to nearby beaches and attractions.

Ongoing discussions about upgrading the port aim to improve passenger handling and expand the port’s capacity to accommodate more cruise visits in the future, in line with the region’s growing appeal as a Mediterranean cruise stop.
