Port Said

Port Overview
Located at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal, Port Said is one of Egypt’s most strategically important ports and a growing destination for cruise ships transiting the Eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea. While primarily a commercial hub, Port Said occasionally welcomes cruise vessels, particularly those offering extended Middle East or repositioning itineraries.

Cruise ships dock at the commercial port near the city center, typically at the Port Said Passenger Terminal. The terminal is functional and includes customs, immigration, and basic passenger services. From the port, visitors can easily access the city’s promenade, colonial-era architecture, and the Suez Canal Authority building. Some cruise lines also offer excursions from Port Said to Cairo and the Pyramids, located approximately 3 hours away by bus.

Passenger facilities are modest but adequate, and local tour operators, taxis, and buses are available at the terminal. While Port Said itself offers a quieter tourism experience compared to Alexandria, it is valued as a point of entry for overland excursions into Egypt’s major cultural and historical sites.

Efforts are ongoing to enhance cruise infrastructure and visitor experience, with long-term plans to modernize passenger services and better integrate the port into Egypt’s broader cruise tourism development strategy.
