Port Overview

The Port of Brindisi, located in the southern region of Puglia on Italy’s Adriatic coast, is a historic and strategic seaport with a growing role in the Mediterranean cruise circuit. While it primarily serves commercial shipping and ferry connections to Greece and the Balkans, it also functions as an emerging port of call for small to mid-sized cruise ships.

Cruise vessels usually dock at the Costa Morena quay, one of the port’s dedicated cruise terminals, situated a short drive from the city center. Shuttle buses or organized excursions typically transport passengers to Brindisi’s key attractions, including the Roman Columns, the Castello Svevo, and the Cathedral of Brindisi, as well as the scenic waterfront promenade.

Passenger facilities are available at the terminal and include basic services such as check-in, customs, security screening, and access to tourist information. Although more limited compared to larger cruise ports, the terminal provides the essentials for a smooth arrival and departure experience.

Brindisi is also a convenient gateway to inland Puglia and nearby heritage sites, such as Lecce, often called the “Florence of the South,” and Ostuni, the famous whitewashed hill town. The port is actively seeking to attract more cruise traffic by improving infrastructure and promoting the region’s cultural and historical richness.

Its proximity to Brindisi Airport (just 15 minutes away) also makes it a viable embarkation point for cruise operators seeking alternatives to larger ports like Bari.
