Port Overview

The Port of Bari is one of the most important maritime hubs on Italy’s Adriatic coast and serves as a key gateway for cruise ships traveling between Western and Eastern Mediterranean routes. It accommodates a wide range of vessels, from large ocean liners to smaller boutique cruises, and is frequently included in itineraries linking Italy with the Balkans and the Greek Islands.

Cruise ships typically dock at the Terminal Crociere, a modern cruise terminal located within the port’s central area, close to Bari’s historic old town (Bari Vecchia). From the terminal, passengers enjoy easy access to the city’s major attractions, such as the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, Swabian Castle, and the picturesque seafront promenade.

The terminal is equipped with modern passenger facilities, including check-in counters, customs and immigration services, tourist information desks, duty-free shops, and shuttle transport. The port is well integrated into the city’s transportation network, offering taxis, local buses, trains, and organized shore excursions to nearby destinations such as Alberobello, Matera, and the Trulli of Puglia.

Port authorities in Bari continue to invest in infrastructure upgrades to support growing cruise traffic and ensure efficient, comfortable handling of both transit and turnaround cruise operations. The port’s proximity to Bari International Airport also enhances its role as a convenient embarkation and disembarkation point.
