Port Overview
The Port of Aqaba, located at the northern tip of the Red Sea, is Jordan’s only seaport and a key cruise destination in the region. With its strategic location and close proximity to world-renowned historical and natural attractions, Aqaba serves as a vital stop for cruise ships transiting the Red Sea and offering Middle East itineraries.
Cruise ships typically dock at the Aqaba Cruise Terminal, which is part of the city’s larger port complex. The terminal is located just a short drive from downtown Aqaba, providing passengers easy access to the city’s beachfront, shops, local markets, and the Aqaba Archaeological Museum.
From the port, many visitors take shore excursions to iconic Jordanian sites such as the ancient city of Petra (approximately 2 hours by road), the dramatic landscapes of Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea. These tours are often organized by cruise lines or local operators and are among the most popular highlights of Red Sea itineraries.
Port facilities include customs and immigration, basic passenger amenities, and access to local transportation. Taxis, private transfers, and guided tours are readily available at the terminal. The surrounding area offers opportunities for snorkeling, diving, and enjoying the clear waters of the Gulf of Aqaba.
Jordanian authorities continue to invest in port infrastructure and tourism services to support growing cruise traffic, with ongoing developments aimed at enhancing the passenger experience and positioning Aqaba as a premier cultural and adventure gateway in the Red Sea.
