Port Overview
The Port of Alexandria, located on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, is one of the country’s most significant and historic seaports. Serving both commercial and passenger traffic, Alexandria is a key gateway for cruise ships visiting Egypt, especially those offering itineraries that include cultural and archaeological highlights such as Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, and the Nile Delta.

Cruise ships typically dock at the Western Harbor, at designated berths near the passenger terminal. The port is located within a short drive from the city center, and organized shore excursions often include full-day trips to Cairo (about 3 hours away) as well as tours of local attractions like the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Roman Amphitheatre, and the Citadel of Qaitbay.

The port offers a modern passenger terminal with essential facilities including customs, immigration, currency exchange, restrooms, and tourist information services. Transportation options such as taxis, buses, and private tour operators are readily available, with many cruise lines providing pre-arranged guided tours.

While Alexandria is primarily a commercial port, the Egyptian government has undertaken initiatives to improve infrastructure and enhance the cruise experience, including upgrading terminals and promoting the city as a gateway to Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.
